EU Funding for Project on Refractory Crystalline Silica

CERAM has secured European Community framework VI funding to work on the important issue of Refractory Crystalline Silica (RCS). Working in conjunction with R&D performers and SME companies from across Europe the aim is to better understand how ceramic processing affects the surface chemistry of RCS and so, in turn, toxicity. It is hoped that the data generated will:

(i) assist EU legislators in setting mg/m3 exposure limits and

(ii) stimulate ideas for improved abatement.
SME involvement is deemed very important since smaller companies are more likely to value expert help in identifying reasonable cost solutions for minimising airborne RCS. The UK partners involved in the project are British Ceramic Confederation, Freshfield Lane Brickworks, Royal Stafford and Commercial Clay. For further details, please click here.
