Resource Management Interest Group Meeting

The programme for our forthcoming Resource Management Interest Group meeting is detailed below.

The morning session is open to all. The session after lunch is restricted to members only.

During this time non members will be able to tour the CERAM site to view the range of facilities.


Programme:

10:00 - 10:15 Registration and Coffee
10:15 - 10:30 Introduction and Apologies
Dr Graham Small & Mr Ian Campbell, CERAM
10:30 - 11:10 National Industry Symbiosis Programme – NISP
Ms Sue Innes - Regional Director
Ms Charlotte Harper - Central Regional Development Manager
NISP is an innovative business opportunity programme that delivers bottom line benefits and positive environmental outcomes. The programme aims to help business take a fresh look at resource utilisation.
Charlotte Harper will outline the activities of NISP and by reference to case studies show how partner companies can benefit mutually from the approach to resource management.

11:10 - 11:50 “From Kyoto to Walkers Crisps”
Mr Shaun Bainbridge - Director, CICS
CICS is the UK and Ireland’s main CO2 verification provider. During the meeting Shaun will provide an insight into the current and future regulated emission programmes and discuss the rapidly expanding “voluntary” or carbon foot printing market. Both will be presented with reference to how they can affect UK industry both positively and negatively. Topics covered include:
  • A brief history of climate change – “Kyoto and all that…”
  • EU Emissions Trading Scheme  Phases 1, 2 and 3
  • Carbon Reduction Commitment
  • Carbon foot printing – a valuable public relations tool to fight against imports.

11:50 - 12:30 Resource Recovery in Cement Production
Mr John Pickering - Commercial Manager -  Glacier
Lafarge Cement's Resource Recovery function, Glacier, is actively involved in the development of applications of recovered materials in the manufacture of cement. John Pickering of Glacier will review the operation and discuss the potential for the diversion of industry wastes from landfill disposal.
12:30 - 13:30 Lunch


For Non-members a tour of the CERAM Laboratories will be available after lunch.
